NeuroDoctrine in National Defense: Neural Control, New Leadership & What Comes Next

The convergence of human intelligence and autonomous systems is becoming an increasingly important question for defence.

The convergence of human intelligence and autonomous systems is becoming an increasingly important question for defence. At NeuroDoctrine, it is the question at the heart of our work.

In this edition, National Defense, the publication of the US National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), examines our recent demonstration of neural control of drones in Manchester. We also welcome Lieutenant General Roger L. Cloutier Jr. (Ret.), former Commander of NATO Allied Land Command, to our Advisory Board as our Defence Expert. Alongside footage from our Summit, we share opportunities to join our growing team and news of our forthcoming appearance on Bloomberg’s The Opening Trade.

Five developments. One direction of travel: bringing human intelligence closer to autonomous action across defence, space, and other high-stakes environments.

National Defense, the publication of the US National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), has published a feature on NeuroDoctrine’s recent demonstration of neural control of drones in Manchester. Written by Stew Magnuson, the article examines how our neurotechnology translates neural signals into commands for autonomous systems, enabling an operator to control drones without conventional hand-held controls.

It also traces the development of our work, from our founder’s contribution to DARPA’s Revolutionizing Prosthetics programme and the founding of a healthcare venture focused on neurological conditions, to NeuroDoctrine’s expansion into defence and space. 02 — Defence leadership

Lieutenant General Roger L. Cloutier Jr. joins our Advisory Board

We are honoured to welcome Lieutenant General Roger L. Cloutier Jr. (Ret.), former Commander of NATO Allied Land Command, to NeuroDoctrine’s Advisory Board as our Defence Expert. A highly decorated retired United States Army officer, General Cloutier served for 34 years, culminating in his leadership of NATO’s Allied Land Command. His career spans senior military leadership, multinational operations, and the practical demands of modern warfare.

At NeuroDoctrine, we are developing neurotechnology for defence, space, and robotics, with the ambition of bringing human intelligence and autonomous systems closer together. General Cloutier brings a valuable operational perspective to this work. His experience will help inform our understanding of the demands placed on military personnel, the evolution of human–machine teaming, and the potential role of neurotechnology in future defence systems and military medicine.

His appointment reflects our conviction that developing meaningful technology for defence requires more than technical excellence. We are delighted to have General Cloutier alongside us as we continue this work.

At our recent NeuroDoctrine Summit in Manchester, we demonstrated how neural signals can be translated into commands for multiple drones. The footage captures an operator directing drones through a neural interface, without conventional hand-held controls.

An early glimpse of what becomes possible when human judgement meets machine autonomy.

04 — Build what comes next

Five hiring areas. One mission.

NeuroDoctrine is growing. We are building neurotechnology for defence, space, and robotics, bringing human intelligence and autonomous systems closer together. Delivering on that ambition requires exceptional people across disciplines. We are expanding across five areas: technology, operations, human resources, marketing, and defence and government relations. Roles are open in Manchester and Los Angeles, with further opportunities across Europe to follow.

We are looking for contrarian thinkers: people curious enough to question the obvious, ambitious enough to pursue difficult ideas, and prepared to take genuine ownership of complex problems. If you want to work at the frontier of neurotechnology and autonomous systems, we would like to hear from you.

05 — Next stop: Bloomberg

After the Budget, Before the Bell

We are delighted to have been invited by Bloomberg to join The Opening Trade on 29 October for live analysis of the markets and money following the Autumn Budget.

The discussion will be hosted by co-anchors Anna Edwards, Guy Johnson, and Tom Mackenzie.

We look forward to joining the conversation.

Human intelligence × machine intelligence

This is only the beginning.
